Skills and TAFE Minister Amber‑Jade Sanderson today announced the appointment of Stephen Moir as the new Chair of the State Training Board (STB).
Mr Moir has served on the STB since 2019 and brings extensive leadership experience across Western Australia's automotive, small business and training sectors.
As group chief executive officer of the Motor Trade Association of Western Australia, Mr Moir has led major workforce, training and industry development initiatives for more than a decade.
His earlier leadership roles include managing director of the Small Business Development Corporation.
Mr Moir's appointment supports the State Government's focus on building a strong skills pipeline and ensuring the training system remains responsive to WA's current and future workforce needs.
As chair, he will prioritise close engagement with industry, growth in apprenticeships and traineeships, and strong alignment with the government's priority for WA to become a renewable energy powerhouse, which makes more things here so that the State remains the best place in the world to get a quality job.
The Minister thanked retiring chair Jim Walker for his dedicated service to the STB since 2014. Mr Walker strengthened links between industry and training providers, championed apprenticeships and traineeships, and provided strategic workforce advice that helped shape WA's long‑term skills planning.
The Minister also welcomed Brooke Fowles to the STB. As director strategy and governance at the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia, Ms Fowles' background spans strategy, policy and organisational reform across essential services and the public sector.
Lena Constantine and Debra Zanella were reappointed to the STB for a term ending 31 December 2028.
